Ortho-Bionomy can help with headaches, migraines, neck pain and stiffness, back ache and pains, restricted movement, poor circulation, arthritis, hip, knee, ankle and foot problems, sciatica, general injuries, accidents and falls, sport injuries, muscular spasm, trauma and tension.
It does this by working with the physical structure and energy flow of the body. By releasing tension, trauma and spasm in the muscles and soft tissue, Ortho-Bionomy facilitates re-alignment, giving relief from pain and discomfort, encouraging relaxation and a sense of well being.

What happens:
When there has been injury or trauma the body tends to immobilize the area to protect it from movement and pain. When this holding pattern becomes habituated, muscles can remain chronically tense even after the initial cause of the pain has disappeared. Gentle compression into the joint that is holding the muscular tension permits the central nervous system to recognise the unnecessary muscle contractions and respond by stimulating release and relaxation. This procedure allows a person who has suffered with chronic pain over a period of time to get relief.

How it works:
In Ortho-Bionomy the body's capacity to self-correct is fundamental. The basis of Ortho-Bionomy is to discover the body's preferred posture, not an idealised one but that which is most comfortable to the individual. Once found, the practitioner "affirms" this position by lightly compressing into the joint. In this way, a bio-feedback mechanism is stimulated, informing the central nervous system about the held muscles and tension pattern. When the body recognises the exaggerated pattern, there is a reflexive release. Ortho-Bionomy is not a force technique but a gentle and non-intrusive way of working. By focussing on the individual's needs, Ortho-Bionomy offers the possibility of exploring a wider range of expression through relaxation and allows change to occur at the person's own pace. Through this process of releasing the various tensions in the body, Ortho-Bionomy works to relieve pain, remove congestion, increase local nutrition and raise general vitality so healing may progress more rapidly.

What to expect:
The Practitioner will take a case history at the initial consultation including details of current symptoms. Treatments are one to one, generally with the client lying on a table and the Practitioner guiding the body into positions of ease, holding these positions in order to allow the tension, trauma or injury to release

Spontaneous feedback
From a client who had been struggling with chronic lower back pain "This is what it feels like to walk around normally again, It's so much better, thankyou".
